Greetings and a very warm welcome to the 1st National Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in Malaysia. ECMO is a form of extracorporeal life support for children and adults suffering from life-threatening cardiorespiratory failure. It is a highly complex treatment option where patient outcome depends on dedicated multidisciplinary teams who are knowledgeable and skillful.
ECMO is now increasingly available in Malaysia, especially in Ministry of Health cardiac centers. It provides a treatment option to support patients with cardiorespiratory failure who otherwise have no survival chance. Continuous education and upskilling in ECMO related sciences and technologies are essential to ensure resources spent results in desired outcomes in patient care.
On behalf of the Malaysian Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Perfusion Society (MASCAP), I welcome each and every one of you to the conference. I hope you will benefit from the contents of the conference which cover both theoretical and practical aspects of ECMO care, delivered by invited speakers and facilitators who are experts in the field.
I wish to thank the scientific committee led by Dr Hasmizy Muhammad and the organizing committee members who have worked very hard to ensure this inaugural conference comes to fruition. I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Health, Malaysia and the medical industry for the support given to MASCAP in organizing this conference.
I wish everyone a fruitful conference and a wonderful stay in Putrajaya. It is my sincere hope that this conference will mark the beginning of an era of cooperation, development and progress of ECMO in our country.
Thank you.
