Malaysian Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Perfusion Society (MASCAP)

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is my honour to welcome everyone to the first National Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (1st NECMO) Conference on 5th to 7th October 2023 at Le Meridien Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Perfusion Society (MASCAP) is proud to host this inaugural conference. It has been a long and exciting journey for the organising committee to see this to fruition and is an event which is much awaited by the members of the MASCAP and the critical care community.  This conference spans over a period of three days; one day for the pre-conference workshop and two days for the main conference.

The MASCAP continues to work in unison with strategic partners in the healthcare sector to set the stage for a future driven by healthcare technology and innovation as part of its transformation strategy to enhance the quality of the healthcare sector’s outcomes. It is MASCAP’s aim to connect and explore new insights and expertise at a national and international level through networking with other professionals in a multidisciplinary setting. It is also MASCAP’s goal to hold this conference biennially to update knowledge and expertise on one of the most important interventions in difficult-to-manage respiratory and circulatory failure cases, which were experienced during the active waves of the COVID-19 pandemic and shed light on the most important and latest medical practices used and to raise the efficiency of health care.

This conference provides a platform for both local and internationally esteemed experts to discuss the latest evidence and practice in the management of patients with acute respiratory and circulatory failure requiring ECMO.  The aging and ailing community of the 21st century depends more and more on mechanical assistance in a multitude of forms. In the cardio-respiratory arena, a greater understanding of patient-machine interaction is essential for this technology to achieve its full potential and that the knowledge we gain is put into practice in an optimal fashion.  Our target is to advance the understanding in this field with the appropriate training of doctors and clinical staff and, in doing so, improve the lives of patients – today, tomorrow, and into the future.

The organising committee and I would like to express our grateful thanks to the Ministry of Health of Malaysia, the universities, the private hospitals, and the biomedical industry for their support of this conference.  It is our pleasure to welcome you all to Kuala Lumpur and we hope that you will enjoy and gain meaningful insights at this 1st NECMO inaugural conference and learn from the experiences and best practices shared by our international faculty.

Thank You
