The 11th Biennial Conference on Cardiopulmonary Bypass

The 11th Biennial Conference on Cardiopulmonary Bypass’ was the MASCAP’s largest event, which lasted for two days from 26th Monday to 27th March 2022. It was the first time it has been held virtually. The conference was organized jointly by the Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Special Interest Group of College of Anaesthesiologists, Academy of Medicine Malaysia (AMM).

Cardiopulmonary Bypass For The Anaesthesiologists Webinar

Cardiopulmonary Bypass For The Anaesthesiologists Webinar’ on 11th June 2022, was a joint initiative of ‘College of Anesthesiologists AMM, Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists and the Malaysian Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Perfusion Society (MASCAP)’. The speakers were Dr. Mohamad Hanafi Mohd from the Penang Hospital with the topic ‘The Principles of Cardiopumonary Bypass’; the second speaker was Dr. Ariffin Marzuki Mokhtar from the University Science Malaysia Hospital with the topic ‘Anticoagulant Therapy During Cardiopulmonary Bypass’, and the last speaker was Dr. Hasmizy Muhammad from the Sarawak Heart Centre, with the subject ‘The Use of Cardiopulmonary bypass in Non Cardiac Surgery’. The moderator was Dato Dr. Yong Chow Yen from Penang Hospital.

Precongress Transesophageal Echocardiography Workshop

‘Precongress Transesophageal Echocardiography Workshop’ in conjunction with ‘MSA/COA Annual Scientific Conference 2022’ on 4TH August 2022. MASCAP members together with ‘Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Special Interest Group’ College of Anaesthesiologists, held a workshop at the UITM Medical Center, Sungai Buloh.

Cardiac Anaesthesia and Thoracic Symposium

‘Cardiac Anaesthesia and Thoracic Symposium’ during the ‘MSA/CA Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) on 5th to 7th August 2022, at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur. This conference was the first to be held face-to-face since the COVID-19 pandemic. For the ‘Cardiac Anaesthesia Symposium’, the speakers were Prof. Tae-Yop Kim from South Korea with the topic "Hemodilution, Cell Salvage and Ultrafiltration in Cardiac Surgery"; Prof. Gudrun Kunst from the United Kingdom talked on "Update in Cardiac Surgery Associated AKI" and Dr. Hasmizy Muhammad from Sarawak Heart Centre presented a topic on "Difficult Weaning from Cardiopulmonary Bypass". For the ‘Thoracic Anaesthesia Symposium’, the speakers were Prof. Javier H Campos from the United States with the topic “Management of Hypoxia during One-Lung Ventilation”, Prof. Marcelo Gama de Abreu from Germany with the topic “Protective One-Lung Ventilation”, and finally Dr. Maseeda Mohamed Yusof of the Penang Hospital with the topic "Anesthetic Management of Traumatic Tracheal Injury".

Advancing Cardiopulmonary Bypass Knowledge Webinar

The Malaysian Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology and Perfusion Society (MASCAP), in collaboration with LIVANOVA, organized an ‘Advancing Cardiopulmonary Bypass Knowledge Webinar’ on 10th June 2021. MASCAP’s Vice President, Dr. Hasmizy Muhammad, gave a lecture on “The effect of Hemodiution and Techniques to Manage Hemodilution”.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Webinar

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Webinar series on 12th June 2021. The invited lecturers were Prof. Dr. Thomas Muller from University Hospital Regensburg, Germany with a lecture on ‘ECMO 2021: Fundamentals Efficiency, and Problems’; Dr. Azatul Isla Abdul Latib from Hospital Serdang, who gave a lecture on the ‘Experience of ECMO Service in Serdang Hospital’; and finally Dr Hanafi Mohd from Hospital Pulau Pinang. who delivered a lecture entitled ‘Emergencies and Complications of Patients on ECMO’. Dr. Hasmizy was the moderator for the webinar.

Hemodynamic Webinar Series

'Hemodynamic Webinar Series' on 13th November 2021. The invited speakers were Dr. Zuraini Mohd Noor of Hospital Serdang, with the topic ‘Utility of Hemodynamic Profiling Using Pulmonary Artery Catheters: Old habits Die Hard?’, the second speaker was Dr. Lim Kai Inn of Singapore General Hospital with the theme ‘Intraoperative Fluid Therapy: To Give or Not to Give’, the third speaker was Associate Professor Dr. Laurence Weinberg of Austin Hospital Australia with the subject ‘The Horizon in Predictive Monitoring and Differentiating the Cause of Hypotension’, and the last speaker was Associate Prof. Dr. Keisuke Nakazawa, with a topic ‘Perioperative Quality Initiative (POQI) Consensus Statement of Intraoperative Blood Pressure Control’. Again, Dr. Hasmizy was the moderator for the webinar.
